Including women in peace negotiations has been proven to create longer-lasting peace and stability. However, even though UN Resolution 1325 has placed this issue on the agenda for over 15 years, women are often missing entirely from the negotiation table.

For this ISDP Forum, we have invited a panel of distinguished experts to discuss how women’s role in peace negotiations can be promoted, beyond them mere filling seats. How can inclusiveness contribute to sustainable peace and security? How has Sweden used its seat on the UN Security Council to raise the issue? What measures still need to be taken and what are the obstacles?

Participating on the panel:

  • Lena Sundh, former deputy special representative of the UN secretary general to the Democratic Republic of Congo
  • Emma Bjertén Günther, Researcher with the SIPRI Peace and Development Programme
