July 8, 2022: It is with great sadness that ISDP and its Japan Center have received the news about the assassination of Japan’s former Prime Minister Abe Shinzô. He was a bold politician taking policy initiatives both in the economic and political field. His economic policy, which was given the name ‘Abenomics’, aimed at taking the Japanese economy out of its long period of stagnation and make it a vibrant playing field for innovation and new entrepreneurship. His ‘Womenomics’ tried to increase the number of women participating in the labor market, in businesses and in decision-making. He also tried to increase the voice of Japan on the international arena and make everyone understand that Japan had developed into the solid democracy that the allied powers wanted after the end of the second world war. Abe was a passionate spokesman for the respect of human rights, the rule of law and for keeping the international order free from military conflicts. Japan has lost a great statesman.
