Svante Cornell was quoted in Nikkei Asia on Sweden, Turkey and NATO

June 15, 2023: Svante Cornell, Director, was quoted in Nikkei Asia on Sweden, Turkey and NATO.

“Sweden is very eager to meet Turkish expectations. But whenever Sweden tried to meet expectations, those expectations have changed,” Svante Cornell said.

Underlining that Sweden has already amended its laws, ended its arms embargo and has prosecuted PKK members for the first time, Cornell said that if the rejection continues, Turkey could be isolated in NATO.

“It will be left alone in NATO, [labeled as] preventing the strengthening of NATO at a critical time. It is up to Turkey to decide to be constructive or not,” he said.
